Resident Evil 7- Back to the start

Both Resident Evil 5 & 6 disappointed a lot of hardcore fans, like myself. The classic survival horror days seemed to be gone, replaced with action. We missed the low ammo, limited weapons and creatures that made you jump and sent a shiver down your spine, things you got when the series peaked around Resident Evil Code Veronica, but would never be the same after.

Thankfully Capcom heard our cries and promised to take Resident Evil 7 back to the series roots and it doesn’t look like they’re going to disappoint. We’ve only played the demo and watched bit of live footage but we’re really excited. The idea of the Baker family seems to be a stroke of genius. The series needed to re-inject that fear factor but with something new and the idea of the Baker family, each creepy in their own way, hunting you down being almost invincible is spine tinglingly frightening and exhilarating.

The location, setting and premise all look promising but our concern was that we’d already seen too much. There is footage on Youtube of up to 8 hours of in play footage from those lucky enough to have played the game and we thought, have Capcom showed us it all? We’re grateful they haven’t. All gameplay has been taken from Chapter 3 and there are 8 chapters in total. So not only has this relieved us, that there are another 7 chapters, but the gameplay we’ve seen felt like a beginning, so we’re wondering what the preceding two chapters can be made up of?

With a remake of Resident Evil 2 in the pipeline the future looks bright for the survival horror classic.
